FSY CONFERENCES
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Platform UX, Information Architecture, and Global Scale
Scope
Information architecture • Navigation systems • Platform migration • Event management • International registration
Status
Public-facing IA redesign scheduled for release Q1 2026
(Ongoing platform ownership)
Overview
FSY (For the Strength of Youth) Conferences are large-scale events serving youth across multiple regions and countries. The platform supports public-facing information, content discovery, and event registration for a diverse, international audience.
Over time, the platform’s information architecture and navigation grew organically—making it harder for users to find relevant information and harder for internal teams to maintain consistency. At the same time, the organization began migrating content and experiences from a legacy CMS (Publisher) to Brightspot, introducing additional complexity.
I’ve led UX across the FSY platform, owning information architecture, navigation strategy, and ongoing experience improvements while supporting platform migration and international event workflows.
ROLE
Senior UX Designer
TIMELINE
Multi-year ownership (3+ years)
LOCATION
challenge
Public-facing information architecture had become fragmented and difficult to scale
Navigation patterns varied across sections and regions
Navigation menu changed randomly depending on what section a user clicked into
Content duplication increased maintenance costs and user confusion
Legacy CMS constraints limited consistency and future growth
Event management and registration workflows needed to support international use cases
This wasn’t a single redesign—it was a platform-level UX problem spanning content, systems, and global users.
process
My Role
I served as the primary UX owner for FSY Conferences over multiple years.
I:
Led the redesign of public-facing information architecture and navigation
Audited, consolidated, and simplified large volumes of content
Defined UX patterns and standards during the Publisher → Brightspot migration
Partnered closely with engineering, content, and program stakeholders
Continued ownership of FSY UX as the platform evolved
Supported improvements to international event management and registration systems
This role required balancing long-term platform thinking with near-term operational needs.
Information Architecture & Navigation
The core challenge was designing an information architecture that could:
Serve first-time and returning users
Scale across regions and conferences
Remain maintainable for internal teams
Platform Migration: Publisher → Brightspot
FSY content and experiences were migrated from a legacy CMS to Brightspot, requiring UX translation rather than a direct lift-and-shift.
Event Management & International Registration
In parallel with public-facing work, I supported UX efforts across FSY’s event management and registration systems—particularly for international conferences.
Outcome
Outcomes (Pre-Launch)
While the new information architecture is pending release, early outcomes include:
A clearer, more maintainable IA structure
Reduced content duplication and inconsistency
Outdated or unnecessary pages
Improved navigation clarity for all users across FSY pages
A scalable CMS foundation for future conferences and regions
Stronger alignment between UX, content, and engineering teams
A more universal feel between regions
Post-launch, the platform will be positioned for easier iteration and long-term growth.
